Face Food| Olive Oil and Salt Scrub

By now you should know that I love my home made face masks, exfoliators , and hair masks. So when I was in need of an exfoliator I went straight to my cupboard and grabbed the extra virgin  olive oil and some sea salt. The olive oil will work as a natural cleanser, that wont clog your pores, and the salt will help unclogged pores, remove dry skin and help your skin look healthier. Two simple and cheap products that are always at hand.

  1. Start by adding 2 teaspoons of salt to a small cup or bowl
  2. Add the same amount of Olive Oil( you can use more or less depending how your skin type)
  3. Mix the two ingredients together. Then pop in the fridge until ready to use.
  4. Optional: Steam your face to open up your pores
  5. Wash your face in lukewarm water, and then take an old clean foundation brush and apply the scrub.
  6. After applying the product with the brush, use your fingers to massage the scrub in. Rub gently in circular motions all around the face.
  7. After rubbing for 2 minutes, wash off the scrub. It might take a couple of washes to ensure all the product is off.
  8. For an extra clean use you normal face wash. Pat your face dry, and then put on your favourite moisturiser.
You can use this scrub 2/3 times a week.
This leaves your skin looking radiant, feeling smooth and a lot cleaner and healthier looking.

Tell me what you think?

For those who love books.....

You can now wear them as well! Kind of! I recently came across an online shop called "Out of Print". Out of Print stocks T-shirts, fleeces, accessories and stationary. But the special thing about Out of Stock, their items are printed with images found on the front cover of books! Amazing!
I was on tumblr the other day, and saw a photo of a girl wearing a  jumper similar to the one below. At school, im studying the "The Great Gatsby" for eng lit, and began searching for somewhere that stocked the jumper. The first result that came up was Out of Print. Clicking into the site, I found an amazing place with a wide variety of book inspired items.

The Great Gatsby book cover fleece
There is such a wide variety of titles of books, including Nancy Drew (who I love!), Pride and Prejudice, Animal Farm, Death of a Salesman(another play I studied), Lord of the Flies, and cute t-shirts for children with titles including Charlotte's Web and The Hungry Caterpillar.
Their Mission!
"Out of Print celebrates the world’s great stories through fashion. Our products feature iconic and often out of print book covers. Some are classics, some are just curious enough to make great t-shirts, but all are striking works of art.
We work closely with artists, authors and publishers to license the content that ends up in our collections. Each product is treated to feel soft and worn like a well-read book.
In addition to spreading the joy of reading through our tees and accessories, we acknowledge that many parts of the world don’t have access to books at all. We are working to change that. For each product sold, one book is donated to a community in need through our partner Books For Africa.
How we read is changing as we move further into the digital age. It’s unclear what the role of the book cover will be in this new era, but we feel it’s more important than ever to reflect on our own individual experiences with great literary art before it’s forever changed."
So not only do they provide fun, unique items, they are helping communities in Africa have access to literature that we not only take for granted, but forget we have. Sometimes in the new electronic age we forget the power a book has on someone. It can give hope, happiness and an education. The books provided are helping a community in Africa, that possibly without Out of Print, may never have had the chance to access books.

Here is a selection on my favourite pieces from Out of Print!

I hope you get a chance to visit Out of Print. It is truly an amazing site, and their mission is very inspirational.

Creeper Shoes: Outfits

When I first saw the "creeper" I wasnt a fan. I wasnt sure how you could wear them, since they are such a statement piece. However after seeing people on youtube, lookbook and magazines, I began to like them. Its true what they say, fashion goes in circles. These shoes are so 1980's/90's. The grunge look is becoming ever more popular, and more and more people are embracing new styles and arent afraid to break the mould. Celebrities like Jessie J and Rihanna have been spotted wearing the platform shoes.

Creeper Inspired

This outfit is one I would wear. Its laid back, simple yet the shoes still make a statement. I decided to pick a black pair because the shoes themselves are extremely bold, and black helps to tie them into the outfit without making them stand out too much.
 Outfit 2

Creeper

I really like this look. The skater skirt and plaid shirt work well together, but the pop of colour from the pink creepers help to bring another level to the outfit. It makes it more playful and girly, yet there is still an edge with the shirt and the bracelet. Outfit 3 Creeper

This is a look for a night out. If you want to avoid wearing heels, these are a great alternative. They give height, but not too much. The weight is distributed evenly making them comfortable to walk in. Slightly higher than the previous shoes, these would be great for a night out. No embarrassing trips in your sky high heels anymore.

Outfit of the day

Here is my first outfit of the day post. I was going down to Belfast for a day with my family, and decided to dress up a bit. Since I am always in trackies and a hoodie on lazy days, I like to wear skirts when I got out. The weather was alright, but after taking these photos I decided to bring my denim jacket just in case. And I was glad I did because later it started to rain. Typical. Anyway, I didnt get anything done in Belfast, but i went to loads of the boutiques to have a nosy around.

Hair Care 101

On Saturday night I went out with my friends to celebrate a birthday. I wanted my hair to look silky, bright and well more healthy. So I decided to make a hair mask. I really love masks, because once you put them on, you can leave them on for 30 minutes and in the mean time, you can relax-read a magazine, read a book, anything.
So the mask I made was very simple. It included only two ingredient-Honey and Olive Oil. It really depends on how thick or thin your hair is for measurements. I have extremely thick hair, so I used 2 teaspoons of honey with 2 teaspoons of oil.
(none of these images belong to me)

  1. Brush your hair through, making sure there a no knots or tangles.
  2. Section your hair in parts, working from the bottom up.
  3. (Optional-Use a hair dye/tinting brush to apply the mixture.) If you dont have this brush just use your hands, both ways are fine.
  4. Work the mixture through your hair, concentrating mostly on the ends.
  5. Wrapped hair in a shower cap or plastic bag to trap heat, helping the hair "soak" in the goodness of the honey and olive oil. Leave for 10-15minutes. Leave for shorter or longer depending on your hair thickness.
  6. Wash out thoroughly, and shampoo and condition as normal.
  7. Style as you wish!

I really love this hair mask. I found that it picked up the bronze tones in my hair very well, and my hair was very soft and silky. I would use it twice a month as a treat for my hair.

Petal Gifts Review

If you read my last few posts on Northern Irish Etsy shop owners, you may recognise this shop. Before writing the posts, I wanted to check with the owners that they were ok about me linking their shops. When I was messaging Lois from Petal Gifts, she offered to send me a pair of earrings to review. I was able to choose a pair, and I decided on the Bow Earrings found here! They are found in the Original Collection, which are signature pieces, available in silver-plated or bronze plated finishes.
I really liked the look of these earrings because they were simple but so cute and delicate. The earrings are available in either silver or bronze. The earrings come in a plastic packaging and inside the earrings were wrapped in baby pink tissue paper, with a sticker securing the fold. I really love packaging like this, it shows the care and attention put into the product. Carefully opening the paper (I hate ripping nice paper) the earrings were attached onto some card with "Petal" on the top, and a cute pink bow below it. Now you can fully appreciate the work and skill that goes into making the earrings (and also the bracelets, necklaces and bookmarks). The detailing on the bow and finishes are just beautiful. I really like the finish off it because its not shiny new, there is a lovely "aged" look to them, which gives them character, and definitely not like the earrings you would find in a high street store. My initial thought was that they look quite heavy, but once I put them on they weren't at all, and after wearing them through a whole day of school the next day, I nearly forgot I had them on. Speaking of school, the amount of comments and questions as to where I got them was unbelievable and I was pleased to say on etsy. The price of the earrings are £4. A complete bargain!
Here are some photos of the earrings, the packaging and me wearing them.
